Today we are talking about how to surround yourself with a good property management team. A team does not mean just your employees, but also vendors and other people outside of yourself if you’re a one or two person office. There’s a way to build a team that will bring your property management business success, and these five tips will help you get there.
Set Expectations
First, you need to set expectations for everybody who works with you. This includes establishing when they are available, when you are available, and what you expect from them while establishing accountability for everyone.
Communicate Well
Clear communication is important to have so things don’t fall through the cracks. You want to know what’s going on and what timelines have been set up.
Policies and Procedures
Procedures need to be in place, and they should be the framework for your processes. You need a way for people to look back and see what the structure of their job is and what their workflow looks like. If you have that foundation, you can set the expectations and the communication on top of that.
Company Vision
Have a vision. You don’t need a full day retreat to establish a vision, but you do need to know where your company is going. The people around you need to be part of that vision and know how they contribute to it so everyone is moving together in alignment.
Create Ownership
Create ownership and accountability with your team members. They need to feel like they are contributing to the end result of what you accomplish. When your team members feel like they have true input and they are part of the goal setting and not just the worker bees, you’ll have a lot more ownership on your team.
These five tips will help you put together a strong property management team that can really launch you to the next level in your business. If you have any questions or you’d like to hear more about growing your property management business, please contact us at The Property Management Coach.
